2024 Electric Fly-In

ELECTRIC FLY-IN 24

Our annual Electric Fly-In has taken place every year for the best part of 20 years and is the biggest event each year in our club's calendar. This year's event attracted a large number of flyers and spectators including many guests from other clubs. The club field was looking resplendent noted by many of the guests, thanks to the team of members who give up their time year-round and the volunteers who made sure the event ran smoothly. The weather gods played their part with a steady breeze from the west blowing down the runway, and sunny skies.

Once again, we had many excellent aircraft in attendance covering all aspects of aviation, from a Fokker Tri-plane of WW1 to modern jets and high-performance aerobatics planes and gliders. The standard of flying by all the pilots was excellent throughout the day, making for a great spectacle.

Some of the highlights included Tony Nijhuis and Steve Schafer. Tony with his current range of prototypes that we will no doubt see in the magazine in the near future, and Steve with his impressive Kobuz 5.6M glider with smoke system.

Tony’s prototype Concorde with four 70mm ducted fans attracted great interest and tony did an amazing job landing with no nose gear, on his first flight of the day and only the second with the model. His second flight had the gremlins sorted and the Concorde flew wonderfully.  Later in the day Steve put on an amazing aerobatic flying display with the Kobuz using the smoke system for the first time. There was a noticeable hush from the assembled as everyone's attention was drawn to this model.

Our chairman Bob McAlpine and wife Rachel provided the BBQ with teas and coffees, with cakes provided by members and Debbie Hutchins.  Many thanks to them for their endurance and also to the cake providers. It was very much appreciated.

The day ended with the raffle and prize giving, the raffle raised £208 towards the Club funds. Our thanks, goes to the raffle prize sponsors including, Stuart Warne from HobbyKing, Dominic Mitchell of Essential RC and Chris Shead aka Dad's RC Hangar.

The prize for favourite model of the day went to Steve Schafer for the Kobuz 5.6M glider, and the committee's choice went to James Bennet for the 3D printed Abrams P-1 Explorer.

You may have also noticed Mike Freeman from the RCM&E taking pictures and talking to everyone, he took some 1500 pictures on the day, so we’re looking forward to seeing a good write up of the event in the RCM&E in the future.

A final thank you goes to all who attended making it a wonderful day, we hope your come again. If you couldn't make it this year; we hope to see you next year.
